20 kg ancient coins statues and other artifacts discovered in the deep
Two divers have discovered in the depths of the sea a treasure consisting of bronze statues, coins and other artifacts, which is likely to come from a sunken cargo ship, with 1600 years.
Divers have notified the authority from Israel, Antiques who found that a portion of the underworld had been cleared, revealing the remains of a vessel long lost, along with the anchors, ships remnants of wood and other materials used in building the ship.Ancient Coins IdentificationBut more important was the cargo ship. Among the artifacts, divers have recovered a bronze lamp, depicting the image of the Sun; a figurine of the Goddess of the Moon; an image of a head lamp with african slave; fragments of three life-size cast statues in bronze; animal-shaped objects, which are used for decorations on clothing; a bronze faucet in the form of a wild boar hog with a Swan's head; fragments of large vessels, which stored water to drink.
It was also discovered a hoard coinage: nearly 20 kg of coins bearing the images of Emperor Constantine (who ruled the Western Roman Empire between 312-324 ad, and was later known as Constantine the great, ruler of the Roman Empire between 324-337 a.d.), but also to his rival Licinius, Constantine, who ruled the Eastern Roman Empire.
Metal Statues are rare archaeological discoveries in ancient times because they have always been rendered and recycled. When bronze artefacts are discovered, they are found in the sea. Because the statues have sunk along with the ship, were saved from recycling. The statues are in a particularly good, considering that they waited into the Mediterranean for more than a Millennium and a half, being protected by sand. Therefore, they are in a State of preservation, as though they were soon submerged rather than 1600 years ago, "explained the archaeologists, who praised the attitude of scuba divers, who will receive a certificate of appreciation and which have been invited to make a tour of the National Treasury deposits.
